Half Life – 43 – which tree? August 20th, 2021 The tall, pointed, poplar is the tree I’d choose to mark the spot. I think they’re called Lombardy poplars, with their slender branches reaching to the sky they make a statement and are easy to find in a field of trees, where each one marks where someone is buried. Even Older Boy, who has such a bad sense of direction he gets lost on his way to the toilet in the night, couldn’t fail to find it. A white poplar, with its fluffy white catkins, is also obvious enough to make sure it stands out if the tree police don’t let me have the taller one. The default option would be an oak, as long as it’s protected from ever being turned into furniture. Being part of a table and chair set is not the final resting place I would choose for my re-cycled molecules.
My Dad is in my wardrobe. I left him at the crematorium during last year and then thought he would be livid he was still there on his birthday ("Ive not been gone a year yet and already you've forgotten about me"), so I went and picked him up. If I open the door of the wardrobe a bit, he can watch TV with me and that's lovely.
Must be si difficult finding words and letting your thoughts and feeling flow on paper. It's difficult for me to read your words Charles as you have a way of saying one thing which can mean much more. My father died few years ago, Eric snr, big Eric left lots of emptiness to all who met him, mum asked me to buy a rocket and send his ashes to the sky, I had all family write a personal thought on it, not read by others. Up it went all £50 worth, yes it exploded and words forgotten, I will never let his name be forgotten, I carry it myself as a reminder if I'm called. A tree Charles, strong roots (you) a sturdy trunk( your wife), branches that sway and leaves that change ( Your children) so you are already the tree and a fine one at that. Keep penning bud. 🥚
Perfect choice - although I'd have paid good money to see the tiger option! Honestly though Charlie, I'm in awe of your writing and your dark humour in these tragic circumstances. Truly amazing. Vxxx

I would like very much to see you, if not speak with you cousin before you’re planted or plated. How can this be done?

We could have a charity auction for bits of you preserved in formaldehyde. You never know, may raise some money for charity! 😀
